I often see unexpected things when out and about. It's the nature of being outside for long periods of time. Every night when I am camping I will wake a few times, and when I do I usually look outside to see what the weather is doing to give me ideas for sunrise. When I looked out of the tent on this particular night I saw what I thought were Noctilucent clouds (a rare sight) but then the clouds m
oved. With a voice much like a child would make when they see Father Christmas I exclaimed 'Emma wake up, Northern Lights, Northern Lights!'.
I have never seen Aurora before so it was a magical experience. Given that there was only an hour or so of night dark enough to see the Aurora it was a very early and lucky sighting indeed. My only regret is that I wasn't in a more scenic location and the shots are slightly out of focus but I'm not complaining :D

My goodness, that sounds like an amazing experience! I'd love to wake up and find them hanging above me. Equally I'd love to see Noctilucent clouds... I'm hopefully off to iceland this winter, so I hope i'll find the Aurora Borealis! I can deal with a week of not sleeping...I hope.

I haven't seen them in real either. What a lucky hour.
