The First Day of Spring by Alex37 The First Day of Spring by Alex37
Spring is finally here. It seems a while since I shot a landscape so it was wonderful to come home and have a wander up the river again.

I actually knew there would be a shot something like this because the conditions were so similar to 2 years before. [link]
I actually prefer the other shot, particularly compositionally, but I enjoy this one too.

It seems most of the primroses down the river were washed away in the summer when the river was really overflowing. It's a shame, but they will be back another year :)

I know a number of you take interest in technicalities and processing. Here is the PSD if you are interested:

very much so.

Did you edit the water?

If so, that's even more amazing. :P

haha

um I edit all my images to a certain extent. In this image I darkened the top part of the image slightly and also incresed the saturation. The colour in the water is natural.

Wow that's awesome. O: If I asked really nicely would you edit a picture for me? :P

I suppose, but my processing is quite conservative and relies quite a bit on the conditions I shoot in. I'll give it a shot, just dont expect it to be life changing!

I'm sure it'd look marvelous! :) But I don't have the pictures taken yet. The subjects of my photo are going to be twins, in an abandoned school. I added you to watch, so I'll message you with the pic. :D thanks so much!

ooooooh alright i think if the colous where 'richer' it would make the trees in the background less harsh and add depth to the water....guess what im saying is it would be beter...err...blacker :D

not as sumptuous as it needs to be, all a little harsh when it could be so much warmer....

Could you elaborate on that Steve? I cant quite turn that sentence into a 'you could improve it in these ways' kind of comment.

Woodland is a little messy but the lava flow makes up for it.

Thanks Mark. Its a shame that the top half of the image couldnt be better structured, but there are only 3 or 4 points on the river that actually get reflections like this.

I agree that the other one's perhaps better compositionally, but I still can't get enough of that spark-like light on the water.

hmmm, alex - the brightness calls for GND, methinks. that being said, i'm rather taken by a square crop taken from the bottom of this photo!

well the exposure blending I did is equivalent to a 2 stop GND. I have darker exposures of the sky, but the tree go black before the sky colour shows.

I think maybe it would suit your personal style better to crop a square from the bottom. To me though the foreground needs context in this case. Thanks :)

The composition may be more interesting in Molten but I like very much the light in this one. The golden reflection is great and the highlight in the top doesn't bother me. Nice work, Alex.

Thanks for the psd files too. Today, I learned how to get rid of flare... I used to clone it... :)

yeah, curves is really useful. Generally flare results in a loss of blacks (move the bottom left point on the curve to the right) and a red cast, so just reduce that channel :)
