Suilven from Stac Pollaidh by Alex37 Suilven from Stac Pollaidh by Alex37
I had an absolutely beautiful afternoon up Stac Pollaidh with the best visibility I had seen in Scotland. Sadly the sun sunk behind a bank of cloud shortly after this image, not to reemerge until the next day. It's still nice to have a sunny day view though.

Words cannot describe just how aweinspiringly massive this view is.

To Iceland? Awesome! Welcome :) You'll put your camera to good use, I'm sure =P and I hope you'll visit the east side of the Westfjords, that's the best part... :D

We are doing Laugavegur and then camping around the south of the island I think. Getting around iceland is super expensive I've heard you can hitch hike but I dont know how easy that will be if its me and my girlfriend and all our camping gear!

Ah, well, yeah... that could be a problem... it's a shame 'cause in my [super-objective ] opinion, you're missing the best parts. Well, another time maybe

Very beautiful panorama but if you allow me: I would have expected the reflection to be a little darker than it is.

I welcome critique :) In this case the only thing I have darkened is the blue part of the sky as a gradient everything else is a single exposure.

I live not too far from there at Lochcarron, near Torriden. There was a huge fire at Kintail last night, biggest in years, people in Torriden were getting airlifted out. The heather was dry and some numpthy thought it'd be a good time to burn grass.

That's terrible! Fortunately it will regrow but it is so selfish when people do that. I'd be suprised if it wasnt by mistake to be honest!

Oh it was a mistake I have no doubt, but still lots of people gotta burn heather sometimes and the golden rule is keep an eye on your fire and always have water.

Nobody ever has to burn heather! Why would you?

WeaselSoup Featured By Owner May 3, 2011
Oh we do it for all kinds of reasons. Mainly it is to keep plants young and vigorus so that they have higher nutritional value. People generally burn little patches in a cyclinal nature over decades, but occasionally somebody messes up and there's a big fire.

Also sometimes we need to clear it for one reason or another, sometimes to plant trees or to get at pete bogs for fuel.

ah yes, thats slightly different I guess. We call it Swailing on Dartmoor. I cant imagine that getting out of control though, its usually done very carefully...
