Snow Blanket by Alex37 Snow Blanket by Alex37
Taken up at Staple Tor. For as far as I could see I was the only person in the local area, not a footprint in sight.

This is a bit of a classic view of the tors, its a shame I couldn't make it to one of the lesser known tors.

This is a panoramic stitch of 7 vertical frames. The final image size is 42 megapixels.

I love snow sunsets like nothing else, but I rarely see one taken so far away from the sun. It's really refreshing. =)

again not sure of the composition here, its a very difficult place to shoot, and i know ive not shown you how yet :D but i think you could do better, that said the colours are lovely and its very evocative of early morning snow on the moor.....

yeah, to be perfectly honest this isnt the best composition to be had, but I have already shot what I consider to be the best comps and I didnt want to repeat myself!

Love this even more than the other I think Alex, the composition is so strong, and balances everything perfectly.
I really have to ask about this PTGui stitching software man. Do you have the full licensed version, or the free version?

Found a page to order the software, do you have PTGui or PTGui Pro? Do you know what the advantages are of the Pro version?

is photoshop's stiching not good enough for you?
I only use PTGui because I exposure blend some panos (not this one)

Sometimes it has some problems with aligning I feel, and I dunno, just feel that a dedicated program for stitching would result in much quicker, and better results. Something I will have a look into, thanks again.

It must keep you fit :D I have the feeling that if I could drive and didn't have children I'd find myself going to stupid places in the mountains to take photos. But I'm not good at getting up early, so I'd miss all the glorious sunrises.

Is anybody good at getting up early? Urgh I hate it! That said it is often worth it. Maybe you should drag your family up the mountain with you! :)

We're thinking about doing it tomorrow - but I can't help but suspect that come 9am I'll still be under the covers... Or that we'll start driving up the lane and find ourselves beached in a snowdrift :D

I love that pink in the sky. I've been checking out the webcams in Cumbria and the sky is pink around there as well. Of course this is the shortest day of the year so the light is very special.

This is by far your best image Alex. I love the pink band through the sky. I find those types of skies to be the prettiest, so simple yet engaging. You've nailed the composition here, very impressive stuff. I'm guessing you used the 5D here?

yeah 5D and 70-200. Thanks Drew, I'm pleased with this, but at the same time its a shame to go over old ground. I actually prefer the other shot.

I prefer this one basically because I find the composition a lot stronger. Also the contrast is a bit stronger, really top notch work. I get my 70-200 2.8 in a few days, cannot wait :)
