Rock Garden by Alex37 Rock Garden by Alex37
Storkonufell, Iceland
In the volcanic desert between Hvanngil and Emstrur very little lives. There were however a few plants capable of surviving on the little nutrients available. The mountain above is Storkonufell, a rich green from the moss growing on its sides.

Lovely work Alex, strong but simple composition is what attracts my eye here. It's an usual angle of view, which looks wider than the usual 16/17mm and the format is closer to a 5x4" look. Did you crop or did you use a Ts-e and shift-pano-composite?

Its cropped to 4x5 and shot with at 17mm with a 17-40. I focus bracketed (4 shots, f11) for depth of field

Amazing.

It doesn't look real! The contrast between the greens and the lifeless black are stunning.

So envious of you going to Iceland, it looks like such an incredibly beautiful place.

Brilliant Alex. Super composition and the light clarity is about as good as it gets.

ha yeah. To be honest I think most of Europe has dark soils and rocks. In this case isnt not really soil though, most like vocanic sand., They can get bad sand storms here apparently

Well you could afford the flights and buses I am sure, even to do what we did. But I plan to carry 8 days of food next time I go. Do you have a backpack that's capable of carrying 26kg? do you have a full set of waterproofs? Do you have a 0 degree sleeping bag that weighs a kg or less....the list goes on. If you used mid performance gear you'd be looking at a 30kg pack... and you really feel the weight believe me!
