Artist's Comments

I am very very lucky to live in such a place. My friends dont understand me wanting to go home. Peter Tavy is very isolated, but as far as landscapes go it doesnt get much better.

I have seen 6-7 shots now from various SW photogrpahers on various websites all from this evening. Everyone was out with their camera and everyone saw these rays to a greater or lesser extent. This is my first time with these lighting conditions.

I got absolutely swarmed by midges taking this. I was doing the old, press the shutter, run away, run back trick but still got bitten all over *itches leg*. Next time I'll wear tights....

I will make a few more tweaks to the processing tomorrow, its not quite there yet.

8 hours is lots when the sun is shining. When I lived in the Arctic with 24 hour sun, four hours sleep was often enough for the weekend. :D

I grew up in a small country town (not as picturesque as this, though), and I've appreciated the "wide open spaces" so much more since I've moved to the city, where they do not exist. I completely understand your desire to get back there.

I love the sun rays. They often show up well to the naked eye, but are notoriously hard to capture, in my experience. You've done a great job of achieving that.

Ah, yes, being eaten alive - the things photographers will go through to get the perfect shot. Occupational hazard, along with exteme cold, heat, wet, rocks in awkward places, sleep deprivation, etc, etc. But would we swap it for anything? Not in a million years ...
