Oak Sunshine by Alex37 Oak Sunshine by Alex37
©2008 Alexander Nail. Do not use this image in any fashion without my prior permission

This shot was taken trespassing in a farmers feild. I do this probably more than I should in order to get the shot that I want, but I try to avoid it if there are livestock around. I spent the night before camping on the moor and it was a bit disappointing because the sunset and sunrise themselves were a letdown.

There was a thin mist in the air which made these wonderful sunrays just about an hour after sunrise.

The composition mostly involved moving my head everywhere around the trees shadow to find the point at which the rays were at their strongest. I then sorted out the framing of the image, and later cropped to reduce the impact of the trees you see to the top left and right.

The processing involved contrast adjustments (primarily to cut through the flare around the edge of the tree but also to slightly enhance the rays) as well as exposure blending to recover some of the lost highlights to the right of the image

Hi Alex,

My grandfather is writing his memoirs and he is making copies to give as a gift to my entire family. He wanted a tree that represented 'life' as the cover and he loved Oak Sunshine. He wanted to know if he could use it, since it's not a book that will be commercialized, only seen by my family.
Thanks in advance and congrats, you have beautiful photographs.

Hello Alex37, I love your trees!!! I have a ministry in which I give out free audio CDs of the Bible. I usually use LightScribe discs, so I'm constantly looking for different photos to use. I would appreciate it so much if you would allow me to use "Oak Sunshine" as one of my disc labels. If I find others in your portfolio that I would like to use for the same purpose, will I need to ask you for permission for each one? Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Thanks very much for your time!

Peggy

Beautiful photo! May I post it on my website? I'm happy to give you credit for it. I'm an acupuncturist and I like to feature art on my site.
Thanks!

Hi Alex,

You have a keen eye for capturing defining moments like this magnificent oak tree in the early morning sun. I would like to seek your permission to use this image in my project to illustrate the goodly tree. I'll attribute the source to you as part of fair use. Hear the good news from you soon. Thank you very much!

Hi Alex, I love your photo of the oak tree. It captures a beautiful morning moment.
I am involved in a small charitable counselling service in Dorset, and I would like to use your photo on our new website. When people come for counselling, it can feel like they're walking through a mist, and I like the way the light is beginning to shine through the mist in your photo. Would you mind if we used your photo in our website, and possibly in our leaflet too? Would you make a charge for this kind of use?
Best wishes,
Jackie
