This shot was taken trespassing in a farmers feild. I do this probably more than I should in order to get the shot that I want, but I try to avoid it if there are livestock around. I spent the night before camping on the moor and it was a bit disappointing because the sunset and sunrise themselves were a letdown.

There was a thin mist in the air which made these wonderful sunrays just about an hour after sunrise.

The composition mostly involved moving my head everywhere around the trees shadow to find the point at which the rays were at their strongest. I then sorted out the framing of the image, and later cropped to reduce the impact of the trees you see to the top left and right.

The processing involved contrast adjustments (primarily to cut through the flare around the edge of the tree but also to slightly enhance the rays) as well as exposure blending to recover some of the lost highlights to the right of the image

Hi Alex, I love your photo of the oak tree. It captures a beautiful morning moment.
I am involved in a small charitable counselling service in Dorset, and I would like to use your photo on our new website. When people come for counselling, it can feel like they're walking through a mist, and I like the way the light is beginning to shine through the mist in your photo.
