Artist's Comments

First off
THIS IS NOT A PHOTO MANIPULATION

The moon set about 30 mins before sunrise so the countryside was bathed in a warm glow. There has been minimal editing to this shot.

EDIT: After a few inquiries (several notes saying "is this really real?" etc etc) into this shot a full explanation is in order, it seems people are just too skeptical that this is real. It seems one of the great challenges that digital photographers face is justification of the reality of their work...so here goes....

Here is the astronomical data for the day in question:
(longitude W4.2, latitude N50.9):(Tavistock Devon)

Sunday
23 December 2007 Universal Time

SUN
Begin civil twilight 07:38
Sunrise 08:18

MOON
Moonrise 14:11 on preceding day
Moonset 08:12

It seems that sunrise and sunset were closer than I thought though the sun didn't actually get over the moors behind me for at least 30 minutes after the moon set.

So effectively we have the "twilight" of early dawn whilst the moon is setting. This provides the ambient light for the landscape (predominantly for directly behind as the moon sets in the west and the sun rises in the east....)

The sun is setting and atmospheric interference has given it the yellow colour and given it a slightly squashed shape in the same way as the sun changes at sunset.

EXIF :
ISO200, F8, 1 second, 200mm=320mm equiv. and 5mp crop from the 8mp 20D original.

Processing: added magenta and yellow to the white balance in small amounts. Darkened the sky by perhaps 1/2 a stop

If that doesn't satisfy you doubters tough! I have done the best I can to justify it. At the end of the day I hate people who fake photos and pretend they are real, its disgraceful behaviour that I have no intention of replicating.

Excellent (again)!
:iconwaterfallout:
I guess that would explain the size of the moon. Great image.:)

Its certainly my favourite at the moment. Its a bit weird though because it doesnt looks realistic to me, and I was there!

Thanks and Merry Christmas Jim!
