This was the shot I actually was going for on this spectacular morning, having shot the original reference shot in march. You can see a comparison here: [link]

There was a light forst on top of the rocks which added a little bit to the scene, although it didnt create the freaky combination seen in one of Steve Sellmans shots: [link]

To non-Dartmoor folk this probably just looks like an ugly pile of rocks in nice light, but I like the rocks :D

Light & colours are nice, tor itself like you say isn't the best pile in your quadrant.

Well I actually really like the tor itself, and I do think it's quite attractive, but certainyl this aspect doesnt show it at its best. Thanks Mark

I have to say, as dramatic and well processed as your shots from Dartmoor which include the sun are, I have a particular fondness for those morning shots where you focus mainly on the way that golden light plays on the rocks.. the crop and compo are very nice here.. clouds in the sky could perhaps have been better but I actually really like the transition from cool to warm colour from left to right... great shot, keep doing what you're doing!

Thanks. To be honest whilst I enjoy shooting into the sun the resulting shots are rarely my favourites from any given shoot. That said they do tend to be the shots which find greatest popularity and sell best!

Superb Alex the light is gorgeous, not sure I agree with the comment about the rocks..leaving a space on that side gives the picture room and the colour in the sky on that side is wonderful. Also if the rocks went all the way across it would be a picture of some rocks, and it is so much more than that, its about a place a wide open place and as it is you get a sense of that from your picture.

Well I think the main point was to get the tip of the rocks on the right included in the frame. Personally I think that would have strengthened the shot compositionally as well. Thanks for taking the time to comment Andy.

Yeah, nice pile of ol' rocks, but on good light! :) :)

The comparison you link to explains it all.

Excellent composition and lighting. I don't like the white in the sky though.
