Irishman's Wall by Alex37 Irishman's Wall by Alex37
This wall on Dartmoor is called "Irishman's Wall" because it was built by the Irish. Noone know what became of the irishmen, but it was speculated that Ireland was probably a better place to built walls than Dartmoor!

A weekend home camping and walking on the moor and exploring new ground.

What a perfect capture Alex, very inspirational. I understand this was a 2 exposure blend. Did you use any filters as well? Great work!

Those type of highlights are usually quite a nightmare to blend. What aperture did you shoot the sun at? Doesn't seem to be making much of a star?

It was a nightmare to blend :P. I shot at f13 for all exposures. Firstly the 17-40 doesnt produce stars as readily as the 16-35 secondly the sun doesnt always lend itself to producing a star. It all depends on low level atmospheric haze. If it's there then you wont get a sunstar.

yeah I'm aware of that...We never get that much haze, so I'm not too familiar of it. I'm so sick of those stars :(

Out of curiosity how many shots were used to make this image?

Sorry, very slow getting to my messages. 3 frames, one for the ground, one for the sky, one for the sun. about 3 stops apart.

Thanks a lot, I appreciate it :)

As for Adam Burton....funnily enough I have met him a couple of times, he doesnt live too far from me. He actually sent me an email a while back showing me a photo he had taken that was inadvertenly identical to mine. On the very day that I took this shot I did a similar thing:
