So I got up an hour before sunrise for the third consecutive day in a row (it was absolutely horrible yesterday, it started raining at the top and I didnt have a coat!)
The is up at staple tor again. I'm still not finished with the location there's plenty of shots to be had here. This is a blend (using masks) of 5 exposures with a total of 3.5 stops distance. The tonal range is perhaps a little ambitious but I felt it was most true to the scene.
Some of you may have noticed a slight colour change. I have started using the Canon RAW profiles which has made a huge improvement, this is something you have only been able to do lately in Lightroom 2.0
The mast you see there is North Hessary Tor. The mast provides TV and radio for much of Devon and its also a great navigational aid on Dartmoor. The downside is it is incredibly ugly and spoils lots of the otherwise very wild skylines. I may clone it out, I havent decided. I usually wouldn't!
EDIT: For those of you interested in the processing of this iamge I have uploaded a .PSD here: [link] Apologies that that website is rubbish, I would upload it to my site like usual, but I dont want to run out of bandwidth
stunning! it's a great composition. i especially love the variety of textures from the rough rocks till the soft-looking clouds surrounding the sun. i featured this in my profile by the way: [link]

So basically, you take different exposures of the same picture, as if you were doing a hdr? Then cut them up etc to make one picture?
Also, can you explain this layer mask thing..? Why do you need it? What does it do? How do you create it
Thanks so much
Will!
As for explaining layer masks...google is your friend.
