Down From Hare by Alex37 Down From Hare by Alex37
This was the view on Sunday morning from Hare Tor. Little did I know at the time that I had lost both my 17-40L and my polariser. The lens was found after 3 hours of searching but the filter is no more. Expensive polariser number 4 here we come!

Note to self...
Must obtain Alex Nails shoot list for the summer so whilst in stealthy camo gear I follow him & nab any glass he may conveniently drop....

Wow Alex, amazing shot.

Easily worth a 70 poloriser ;)

The mist in the valley bottoms completes this so well. Gorgeous :)

You mind me asking which polorizers you use?

The last I bought was a noname $3 from a yard sale, but it performed well to my untrained eye.

I've used B+W Kaesemanns before but I prefer Hoya Pro1 filters. The cheaper ones are noticeably bad to my eye in anything but the lowest contrast light

Ah yeah, slightly more expensive then. I've heard good things about them.

I really need to get myself a bunch of polorizers, I'm interested to see what they will do with my droplet shooting.

Finally got my new flash on the way too. So bloody pleased, the *looks at flash for brand* Ag...Agfatronic... (that can't be the name!) Is a lil meh and holds the rest of my kit back I feel.

It's a pity. Do you have "all-risk" insurance on your gear? I should check if mine covers "losing an item"...

Lovely shot Alex but I have to address the processing issue here as to me it is glaringly obvious;

The transition between sky and horizon is ok but maybe just a gradient blend would have been more subtle. The Tor on the otherhand appears very cut out looking. I think the masking is near perfect but the difference in exposure is too high, making your processing stand out too much. it looks to me like you have gone around it with a pair of scissors..... whether it is due to the masking or the exposure difference or you have refocused for the background I don't know but something here looks way too obviously manipulated to me.

This is straight from lightroom (I only used PS for sharpening), I only used soft edged gradients. So I guess i don't know why it looks so obviously wrong!

I think I have looked at to many images and too much processing, doesn't help that I am exhausted....

The implication was that you never understood anything, so the use of the term 'Anymore' was inappropriate. That was of course a joke and I am guess that you didnt get it because you are indeed tired (and not because it was tenuous), so I will forgive you :P

Love the comp and all the layers of mist against the lit hills  Did you put the lens down and forget or it fell out of your back? I walked 2 hours down a hill in the Peaks and realised at the bottom (dark by then) that my bags zip had broke and my entire filter kit and wallet of filters had escaped.. 2 hours hiking uphill in ice and snow in the dark with a torch and they were up the top sitting nicely on a dry patch :D

Thanks Dan. Actually the lens fell out of my pack and I noticed and because I figured I was only a 1 minute run away I decided I would carry it in my hand along with my tripod and camera as I ran. I obviously dropped it without noticing. Its not the first time my gear has gone walkies so I might need to come up with a new system!

I was only joking around in a really childish and annoying way, sorry :P

Basically I didn't tie down my backpack properly, the lens came out, I heard it, turned round, picked it up by the drawstrings of the case and carried on running with the strings between my fingers along with my tripod. I just didn't notice when I dropped it because most of the weight was in the tripod and camera that I was carrying in my hands I guess.

I lost my cable release in the rainforest taking photos off the track, but didn't realise it was missing until I got to the waterfall 2km away. In pouring rain and thick mist I made my way back to where I thought it might be and lucky enough there it was sitting there under a big fern so it wasn't wet at all. Anyway, nice shot Alex. Lovely depth and the Tor really frames the bottom thirds nicely!

Thanks Steve. Actually I am thinking of taking this opportunity to buy a 82mm filter so that I can upgrade to a 16-35. Question is, is it worth it? Any opinions oh Gear Master?

its surprising the difference that 1 mm makes at the wide end, for someone who loves burning his retinas of course theres the benefits of the sunstar it produces, but other than that?
