Devon Oaks by Alex37 Devon Oaks by Alex37
Its not often that the sun actually reaches the mist before it evaporates since the moor is to the east and clouds tend to form over it.

I love England... Never would you ever see something like this in the States...

It's quite beautiful, and a great catch. I'm jealous.

beautiful shot, hopefully off to Dartmoor in a week, for 2 weeks, with a bit of luck, I'll see some mist like this ;)

Thanks, bear in mind though that dartmoor itself rarely has mist, its usually the surround feilds and valleys, dartmoor is a great place to veiw it from though :)

yes. You need a relatively warm day, preverably humid, with a drop in temperature overnight and low winds.

nice scene! I've been waiting most of the year for some mist to appear round here but it only does in the forest during winter. I really want to shoot corfe castle in the mist from the hills but every time I go - no mist lol.

I'm just dying to do a really long exposure on the mist moving through a valley. Might have to hit snowdon again somtime soon, but chances are - no mist there either!

Aw, this one appeals to my love of foggy landscapes  Love it when the trees stick from the mist like rocks from water. And the sunlight makes it really special!

Very nice to have the sun playing with the mist, especially in the bottom right angle.

difference between fog and mist...?
Reply
:iconalex37:
Alex37 Featured By Owner Jul 24, 2008  Hobbyist Photographer
fog is thicker is the technical difference. but really I just think when it looks like this it is mist. Fog to me is when you have the "cloud" everywhere, not just a layer.

wrong....if it hits you its fog, if it doesnt its mist!!!!! lol

i dig such layered mists quite a lot. i'd need to get out of the lowlands to get a nice perspective like this.

until then i can surely enjoy works of others :)

It is so good when you come across a moment like this with your camera huh! Almost half of photography I think... luck of the situation/place!
Very nice!

well it depends on whether you view it as luck or statistical chance. I got up early a lot of mornings to get a shot like this. It was likely that one day the conditions would play ball.
Thanks

Alex

Oh well good work!
I have done the same quite some times!
Tho now I'm trying to find shots rather than let them come along... and getting nothing!
Good commitment on this one!
