I must ask you, how do you manage to travel to these extraordinary places? I am in awe of your travels and photographs. Also how do you manage all the travel expenses? I would, so much, like to travel and see these places that I thought could only exist as perfect as in pictures. I must see them, now. Or this wanderlust is going to drive me insane.

Excellent.

Well I live in the UK so the majority of my shots incur relatively little travel expense. I spend at least as much on camping gear! There are many countries in temperate parts of the world that have hugely varied landscapes. Almost any European country will have sights equivalent to these for example. Thanks :)

Great shot but the colours appear cold to me?

Well I felt this was a natural white balance, but I know what you are saying.

Maybe sometimes we just expect colours to be a certain way. I expected the sun to be evening sun because of the long shadows and I associate evening light with orange tones, so seeing the "natural" colours of the image to me looks cold.
Natural is not always best since our eyes do a lot of correcting in the real world but don't do so "on film" blah, blah, blah.
It doesn't negate the image.

ah okay, well this was taken at midday with the sun high in the sky, so that might explain the difference. The sun was half between cloud and blue sky, which is why the light is a little softer.

I would apply some selective blur to the flowers to make it look like an impressionist painting. On the thumbnail where the flower detail is invisible it looked like a Monet painting.

Nice Alex. Im really not surprised this picture has proven so much more popular than your newer bluebell shot. It is well executed and looks very enticing for a lie down.

great, thanks.

I knew it would be more popular, but this site doesnt always give a fair representation of how good a shot is. Whilst I agree with the critiques made on the other shot, I have to question whether some people are actually bothered by it or not, or if they just think they should be!

Yep i certainly agree with you. I understand that you obviously tried something different and pushed the envelope and that is what we should be doing as photographers but to me it was quite distracting. I also get that thats the reason you posted two different interpretations of a similar scene. Keep up the good work tho and congrats on the cover feature of that mag!

I've seen a lot of bluebell photos this year and this is definately up there with the best of them. :D The paler colours and soft light is a nice touch.

Nice shot Alex, I personally think it could do with a contrast boost though, just to make the purple pop out a bit more, lovely lighting :)

Well, you must have good willpower to stay away that long for the sake of exams. Time to let your hair down now and enjoy some summer. Welcome back ! Nice to have a mixture of shade and sunlight like this.

Very nice. I think I'd have been tempted to make this a touch darker or more contrasty, but that's a personal preference and the 'light touch' works well too. :)
