Black Rock waterfall had icicles hanging from it yesterday and more today. =PastyGuy was over, he came to a talk I did at a camera club yesterday and we spent the morning walking up onto the moor for a sunrise that didnt happen and then went down to the Colly Brook to photorgaph the ice.

This is a shot I said I would never take again, because I couldnt see how to improve upon the summer shot [link] , this is an interesting alternative I think.

I used a telephoto lens for this because I wated to include the rocks whilst still coming in close ont he waterfall. I focus bracketted for the foreground.

focus bracketting sounds like a really good technique I should try. I found a new waterfall on the weekend, don't think it's being photographed before so it's real special. I will have to try focus bracketting because there's this one rock which will make a great focal point but getting it in focus as well as the falls and the foliage in the background is tricky. Anything I should know about doing it? Beautiful shot by the way, I've commented before ;)

yeah, take more shots than you think you will need. Just creep the focud foreward, dont do big changes between shots. Secondly, altering focus also changes the zoom slightly, so you will have to either transform them yourself, or otherwise use a focus stacking program.

The soft, ethereal water is a nice touch amongst all that ice!

focus bracketing is changing your aperture throughout a couple of different shots to later blend together? great shot by the way.

no, focus bracketting is where you take two photos of the same scene at different focus settings, then blend them. In this case the foreground rocks were just slightly soft at f16 so I bracketted.
