Aird of Coigach by Alex37 Aird of Coigach by Alex37
Very unusual for me to make what I consider to be a successful image around midday. Usually on a sunny day the light is too harsh. I guess in this case the haze and thin cloud managed to soften the light sufficiently that detail was retained in the shadows.

To the right Stac Pollaidh. To the left Cul Mor.

I think it came out quite well and you are right that the haze dampened the harsh contrasts.
Often I do see landscapes that look nice to my eyes also around midday or early afternoon, but the images eventually come out bad...

I love the sky!

Works well....I found on Skye that I could shoot in the middle of the day, not sure if it's the fact that the sun isn't all that high in the sky (certainly compared to where I live).
This is nice

I feel that, at any moment, something even more epic is going to happen in this picture. :D Looks like the perfect setting for epicness. :D

Def very cool filtered light. Looks like you could boost the 'lights' a bit as it seems a bit too gray instead of the clouds esp. Nice work here...b/w might do well too

This works really well, I won't be uploading my equivalent piece.....
I knew as soon as you said "I'm going up there" that you were gonna get in the right place.... I wonder where those flat rocks were? Must have been nearby...

Liking this one Alex, its funny how the afternoon can surprise us. Sometimes you will get those high contrast scenes in the middle of the day that make for a nice photograph. Sometimes they can become exceptional pictures and stand out from the rest. :) Nice quality here and a great composition.

If the skies were clear this would have been an entirely different picture. Those clouds give us some a neat situation to shoot in. Here's my own example of a nice scene during unique afternoon conditions.

It makes me smile to see surprise at the warmth of the stark landscape - I love the starkness of these landscapes because of the warmth ... but if I point that out I get laughed at!

It is a lovely picture, beautifully composed and great lighting

Great shot Alex - the really captures that sense of being in another world in the far North-West - it's hard to belive that this landscape is actually on the British mainland, it looks so remote and empty. I think that the strong light almost reinforces that sense of emptiness - even at midday the land manages to look threatening and mysterious. Well done.

I have a shot of the milky way from Stac Pollaidh and that really shows how relatively untouched and isolated the area is.

This is beautiful, stark and lonely and uncompromising, but the colours of the grass and rock in the foreground are *warm*.
